Have you ever sat down to make dua and suddenly realised:
“I don’t even know what to say.”
Maybe you are overwhelmed.
Maybe there are too many things on your mind.
Maybe your heart is hurting, but you cannot put the feeling into words.
That’s okay.
Allah does not need you to give Him a perfect speech.
ALLAH ALREADY KNOWS
Allah knows your situation before you explain it.
He knows the thoughts you cannot organise.
He knows the tears you cannot explain.
He knows what you need even before you ask.
Allah says:
“And your Lord has said, ‘Call upon Me; I will respond to you.’(Qur’an 40:60)
So don’t allow the fear of saying the “wrong” words to stop you from making dua.
START WITH WHAT IS IN YOUR HEART
You can simply say:
“Ya Allah, help me.”
“Ya Allah, guide me.”
“Ya Allah, forgive me.”
“Ya Allah, I am confused.”
“Ya Allah, I am afraid.”
“Ya Allah, I don’t know what is best for me, so choose what is best.”
Speak sincerely.
You can also use the beautiful duas taught in the Qur’an and Sunnah.
MAKE DUA IN GOOD TIMES TOO
Don’t make Allah the last person you turn to only when everything falls apart.
Ask Him for guidance before making decisions.
Ask Him to protect your heart.
Ask Him to bless your family.
Ask Him to increase you in beneficial knowledge.
Ask Him to keep you steadfast.
Ask Him to forgive your sins.
Ask Him for both this life and the next.
One beautiful Qur’anic dua is:
“Our Lord, give us in this world [that which is] good and in the Hereafter [that which is] good and protect us from the punishment of the Fire.” (Qur’an 2:201)
And when words fail you, remember:
Silence does not mean Allah cannot hear you.
Your tears can be part of your turning to Him.
