WHEN ANGER TAKES OVER: WHAT DOES THE QUR’AN TEACH?

Anger is a normal human emotion. We all get angry—when someone insults us, disappoints us, ignores us, embarrasses us, or does something unfair to us.
But Islam does not teach us that the problem is feeling anger. The real test is what we do when we are angry.
Allah describes the righteous in the Qur’an:
“Those who spend in prosperity and adversity, who restrain anger and pardon people—and Allah loves the doers of good.”
Qur’an 3:134
For a young Muslim, learning to control anger is a powerful form of strength.
ANGER CAN MAKE YOU DO THINGS YOU WILL REGRET
Have you ever sent a message while angry and wished you could take it back?
Have you ever insulted someone because you were angry?
Have you ever shouted at your parents, fought with a friend, posted something online, or said words that damaged a relationship?
Sometimes anger lasts for only a few minutes, but the consequences can last for years.
That is why the Qur’an praises those who restrain their anger.
REAL STRENGTH IS SELF-CONTROL
The world often teaches us that being strong means being able to respond to everyone.
Islam teaches something deeper.
Sometimes strength is knowing when to remain silent.
Sometimes strength is walking away.
Sometimes strength is forgiving when you have the ability to retaliate.
Sometimes strength is taking a moment to calm yourself before speaking.
BEFORE YOU REACT, PAUSE
The next time anger rises inside you, ask yourself: “If I respond now, will I be proud of my response tomorrow?”
Take a breath. Stay quiet. Leave the situation if necessary. Make du’a. Give yourself time to think.
You don’t have to win every argument, you don’t have to answer every insult, you don’t have to prove yourself to everyone.
A LESSON FOR EVERY YOUNG MUSLIM
Your anger can either control you or you can learn to control it.
The person who can control their tongue, actions and reactions when angry is showing real maturity.
Allah loves those who restrain their anger and pardon others.
HEART CHECK
Today, choose self-control over revenge, patience over insults, and forgiveness over unnecessary conflict. Your peace is more valuable than winning an argument.
