RAMADAN DAY 21: A SPIRITUAL RESET FOR THE LAST TEN NIGHTS

Ramadan has now reached one of its most powerful moments. Day 21 marks the beginning of the last ten nights  the most blessed and spiritually rewarding period of the entire month. These nights carry opportunities that cannot be found at any other time of the year. It is during these nights that Allah grants immense mercy, forgiveness, and freedom from the Hellfire.

Many Muslims begin Ramadan with great enthusiasm. The first days are filled with energy, long prayers, and strong intentions. However, as the month progresses, fatigue, work, and daily responsibilities sometimes slow people down. This is why the last ten nights come as a powerful spiritual reset  a chance to revive our connection with Allah and finish Ramadan stronger than we started.

The Prophet ﷺ treated the last ten nights differently from the rest of Ramadan. According to authentic narrations, he would increase his worship, spend more time in prayer, and wake his family so they could share in the blessings of these sacred nights. This teaches us that these nights are not ordinary nights; they are a special opportunity to draw closer to Allah.

One of the greatest reasons these nights are so important is because of Laylatul Qadr, the Night of Decree. Allah tells us in the Qur’an that this night is better than one thousand months. That means the reward for worship on this single night is greater than the reward of worship for more than eighty-three years. Imagine standing in prayer, making dua, or giving charity on a night whose reward could outweigh an entire lifetime.

Because the exact night of Laylatul Qadr is not known, Muslims are encouraged to seek it throughout the last ten nights. This encourages consistency in worship rather than focusing on just one night. Each night becomes an opportunity to pray, remember Allah, and seek forgiveness.

A spiritual reset during these nights begins with intention. Renew your intention to make the most of the remaining days of Ramadan. Increase your prayers, especially during the quiet hours of the night. Spend more time reciting and reflecting on the Qur’an. Make sincere dua for yourself, your family, and the entire Muslim ummah.

Another powerful act of worship in these nights is seeking forgiveness. Ramadan is a month of mercy, and Allah loves to forgive those who turn back to Him sincerely. No matter how many mistakes a person may have made in the past, these nights are a chance to start fresh and rebuild one’s relationship with Allah.

Charity is also highly rewarding during this time. Even small acts of kindness can carry immense rewards, especially if they fall on Laylatul Qadr. Helping those in need, feeding someone fasting, or supporting charitable causes are all beautiful ways to earn blessings.

As we enter the last ten nights, it is important to reduce distractions. Limit unnecessary social media, entertainment, and activities that take away from worship. Instead, dedicate more time to prayer, reflection, and remembrance of Allah.

Ramadan is a guest that will soon depart. No one knows if we will live to witness the next Ramadan. This reality should motivate us to make the most of every remaining moment. The last ten nights are not just about worship; they are about transformation  transforming our hearts, our habits, and our relationship with Allah.

May Allah allow us to witness Laylatul Qadr and accept all our acts of worship in this blessed month. Ameen.
