RAMADAN DAY 10: SINCERITY (IKHLAS)

The first ten days of Ramadan have passed. Fasting has settled into a rhythm. Worship has increased. Recitation, charity, Taraweeh  they have become part of the daily routine.

But here is an important question: *What is driving these actions now?*

At the beginning of Ramadan, intentions are often strong and conscious. A person starts with resolve, enthusiasm, and clarity. As the days pass, however, actions can become automatic. One fasts, prays, and reads the Qur’an almost on autopilot.

There is nothing wrong with consistency. In fact, consistency is beloved to Allah. The subtle danger is different: when worship continues, but the intention is no longer actively renewed.

Allah says:

“And they were not commanded except to worship Allah, being sincere to Him in religion…”
Qur’an 98:5

This is ikhlas  sincerity. To perform every act purely for Allah. Not for praise. Not for recognition. Not to keep up appearances. Not even simply because “it is Ramadan and everyone is doing it.”

The Prophet ﷺ warned about intention at the very foundation of deeds:

“Actions are only by intentions, and each person will have only what he intended.”
Sahih al-Bukhari

This means two people can stand in the same row of Taraweeh, fast the same number of hours, give the same charity  yet their rewards may be entirely different because their intentions differ.

Ikhlas requires renewal. Before Fajr, renew your intention for fasting. Before Taraweeh, pause and remind yourself: *I am standing before my Lord.* Before giving charity, conceal it when possible and seek only His pleasure.

Sincerity is not loud. It is quiet. It is hidden. Often, the most sincere deed is the one no one knows about.

In these middle days of Ramadan, take a moment to recalibrate your heart. Ask yourself:

* If no one knew I was fasting, would I still fast the same way?
* If no one praised my recitation, would I still open the Qur’an?
* If my charity remained unseen, would I still give?

Ikhlas purifies the deed and multiplies its weight. A small action done purely for Allah can outweigh many visible acts mixed with ego.

As we move forward in Ramadan, do not just increase actions  refine intentions.

Renew them daily. Protect them quietly. Seek Allah alone.

May Allah grant us hearts that worship Him sincerely, privately and publicly, and accept from us our fasting, prayers, and every hidden act of devotion.
