WHO WAS KHADIJAH (RA)? THE FIRST BELIEVER AND BELOVED WIFE OF THE PROPHET
Khadijah bint Khuwaylid (RA) stands as one of the most remarkable women in human history. Her name is spoken with honour, love, and deep admiration by Muslims across the globe. She was the first heart that responded to the message of Islam, the first believer in Allah’s final Messenger ﷺ, and the unwavering support system behind one of the greatest missions ever entrusted to a human being.
For every Muslim seeking strength, sincerity, and steadfastness, Khadijah (RA) is a radiant example.
A Noble Woman Before Islam
Long before the Qur’an began to descend, Khadijah (RA) was already known in Makkah for her impeccable character. She was called At-Tahirah the pure, honourable woman. She was successful in business, respected among her people, gentle to the poor, and trusted by all who dealt with her.
When she chose Muhammad ibn Abdullah ﷺ as her husband, she wasn’t simply choosing a man; she was choosing truthfulness, integrity, and humility. Their marriage was built on mutual love, deep respect, and companionship that would shape the course of history.
The First Heart to Believe
When the Prophet ﷺ returned from the cave of Hira trembling after receiving the first revelation, it was Khadijah (RA) who wrapped him in comfort. She didn’t panic. She didn’t doubt him. She said words that would soothe him for the rest of his life:
“Allah will never disgrace you. You uphold family ties, you help the needy, you honor your guests, and you support the truth.”
These were not just comforting lines. They were a testimony of his noble character from the person who knew him best.
At that moment, Khadijah (RA) became the first believer in Islam. Before any man, before any scholar, before any community there was her heart, certain and surrendered.
A Source of Strength in the Hardest Years
The early years of Islam were marked with hardship, mockery, boycott, and pain. Yet Khadijah (RA) remained by the side of the Prophet ﷺ, spending her wealth, using her status, and holding him up emotionally and spiritually.
When the Quraysh boycotted the Muslims and placed them in the harsh valley of Abu Talib, she endured hunger and exhaustion without hesitation. Her loyalty was constant, her sacrifice sincere.
She gave everything for the sake of Allah her comfort, her wealth, and eventually her health.
Loved by the Prophet ﷺ Like No Other
Few relationships in history shine with the purity found between the Prophet ﷺ and Khadijah (RA). Even after her passing, he remembered her with deep affection. Aisha (RA) once said she never felt more jealous than when he spoke about Khadijah.
He ﷺ would say:
“She believed in me when the people disbelieved. She trusted me when the people denied me. She supported me with her wealth when the people withheld. And Allah blessed me with children through her.”
This love is not just a story from the past; it is a lesson for us today about loyalty, gratitude, and recognizing those who help us when the world turns away.
A Mother of the Believers, a Mother of Greatness
Through Khadijah (RA), Allah blessed the ummah with noble children including Fatimah (RA), whose lineage continued through Hasan and Husayn (RA). Her home was the first cradle of Islam. Her arms were the Prophet’s ﷺ place of peace. Her heart shaped the earliest moments of revelation.
Her Passing and the Year of Sorrow
When Khadijah (RA) returned to her Lord, the Prophet ﷺ experienced one of the deepest pains of his life. That year was named Aam al-Huzn
the Year of Sorrow. It reminds us that even the strongest human being to ever live felt deep grief because of how precious she was to him.
Why Khadijah (RA) Still Inspires Millions Today
She teaches us that faith is not just words it is trust when situations are unclear, sacrifice when things are difficult, and loyalty when tests become heavy. Her story inspires entrepreneurs, mothers, wives, leaders, and every believer who desires strength rooted in sincerity.
Khadijah (RA) proved that the most powerful legacy is not built by fame or status, but by character, faith, and sacrifice for the sake of Allah.
A Legacy That Lives On
Her life continues to shine like a lamp in the darkness. Every Muslim who finds comfort in the Qur’an, every believer who says “La ilaha illa Allah,” every heart transformed by the message of the Prophet ﷺ carries a piece of her reward.
May Allah be pleased with her, elevate her rank, and allow our hearts to walk in the footsteps of her courage and devotion.
