FORGIVENESS IN ISLAM: LETTING GO TO HEAL YOUR HEART

Forgiveness is one of the most beautiful virtues in Islam. Allah (SWT) describes Himself as Al-Ghafoor (The Most Forgiving) and Al-‘Afuww (The Pardoner), encouraging believers to adopt the same spirit in their relationships. Letting go of grudges is not a sign of weakness but a reflection of strength, humility, and a heart that seeks Allah’s mercy.
QUR’AN ON FORGIVENESS
Allah (SWT) reminds us:
“And let them pardon and overlook. Would you not like that Allah should forgive you? And Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.”
(Surah An-Nur 24:22)
This verse teaches that forgiving others is directly tied to seeking Allah’s forgiveness for ourselves.
THE PROPHET ﷺ ON FORGIVENESS
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:
“The strong man is not the one who can overpower others in wrestling; rather, the strong one is the one who controls himself when angry.” (Bukhari & Muslim)
Forgiving when hurt is one of the greatest forms of self-control and spiritual strength.
