SUNNAH PRACTICE OF THE WEEK, HABITS OF THE PROPHET TO PRACTICE

Sunnah Practice of the Week with 3Sixtyislam Worst Vessel to Fill Is the Stomach,Timeless Wisdom on Eating Less
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ once said: “The son of Adam does not fill any vessel worse than his stomach. It is sufficient for him to eat a few morsels to keep his back straight. If he must fill it, then one-third for his food, one-third for his drink, and one-third for air.” [Hadith]
This profound guidance isn’t just spiritual it’s scientifically sound. Modern research continues to affirm the health benefits of eating in moderation. Overeating is a leading contributor to obesity, heart disease, and diabetes. The Sunnah’s advice to fill only a third of the stomach with food, another third with water, and leave the last third for air promotes digestion, prevents bloating, and protects long-term health.
Interestingly, this mirrors the Japanese practice of hara hachi bu, which means eating until you’re 80% full a tradition followed in Okinawa, home to some of the longest-living people on Earth.
Both teachings emphasize a powerful lesson: eating less isn’t about restriction it’s about balance, mindfulness, and preserving the body as a trust.
