SPIRITUAL DIGEST: RAMADAN DAY 23 (A DU’A FROM SURAH AL-MA’IDAH)

The spiritual digest for the 23rd day of Ramadan is a supplication from Surah Al-Ma’idah (5:114).

This verse is a powerful supplication made by Prophet Isa (PBUH) on behalf of his disciples.

They requested a sign from Allah in the form of a heavenly feast to strengthen their faith.

Rabbana anzil ‘alainaa maaa’idatam minas samaaa’i takoonu lanaa ‘eedal li awwalinaa wa aakhirinaa wa aayatan minka warzuqnaa wa anta khairur-raaziqeen.

“O Allah, our Lord! Send down to us a table (spread with food) from heaven, that it may become a feast for us—the first and the last of us—and a sign from You. And provide for us, for You are the Best of Providers.” Surah Al-Ma’idah (5:114)

Key Themes & Lessons:

  1. Trust in Allah’s Provision

    • The verse reminds us that all sustenance comes from Allah, whether through ordinary means or miraculous blessings.

    • It teaches reliance on Allah for our needs, whether spiritual or physical.

  2. A Day of Celebration & Gratitude

    • Isa (AS) asked that this miraculous meal become a day of Eid (celebration) for his followers.

    • This shows that divine blessings should be received with joy, unity, and gratitude.

  3. Strengthening Faith through Signs

    • The disciples were not asking for the food simply out of hunger, but to increase their conviction.

    • It teaches that miracles are signs for those who seek the truth sincerely.

  4. Allah is the Best Provider

    • The verse concludes with the recognition that Allah is “Khairur-Raziqeen” (the Best of Providers), reminding us that true sustenance is both material (food, wealth) and spiritual (faith, guidance).

What Happened Next?

Allah responded in Surah Al-Ma’idah (5:115):

“I will send it down to you, but whoever disbelieves after this, I will punish him with a punishment that I have not inflicted on anyone else in the world.”

This shows the seriousness of seeking miracles—they come with a responsibility to remain firm in faith.

Reflection for Us Today:

  • This verse encourages us to pray for provision and blessings from Allah while remaining grateful.

  • It reminds us that faith is strengthened through signs, but ultimate belief must come from the heart.

  • It teaches that miracles, when granted, come with accountability and responsibility.
