EDUCATION DISTRICT || HOSTS 19TH ANNUAL RAMADAN LECTURE AND COMMISSIONS NEW DISTRICT MOSQUE

Education District II successfully held its 19th Annual Ramadan Lecture today, offering a spiritually enriching and intellectually stimulating gathering for educators, students, and government officials.

The event, organized by the Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary (TG/PS), Mrs. Anike Adekanye, featured a thought-provoking lecture by Worldwide Missioner, Sheikh Abdul Rahman Ahmad, on the theme “Attaining and Managing Success.”

In her opening remarks, Mrs. Adekanye expressed gratitude to Allah for the numerous awards and accolades the district has received during her tenure. She emphasized the importance of striving for success in every aspect of life. “Success doesn’t come easily. It’s the result of hard work and consistency. The success we have achieved needs to be managed and maintained. That’s the essence of today’s lecture, and Sheikh will provide valuable insights on this,” she stated.

She also reiterated the district’s commitment to a holistic approach to education that blends moral, spiritual, and intellectual growth. Mrs. Adekanye expressed her optimism that the event would have a lasting impact on attendees, reinforcing the importance of both knowledge and faith within Education District II.

The Tutor-General also expressed her appreciation to Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu for allowing her to contribute to the development of education in Lagos State, as well as to Deputy Governor Dr. Kadiri Obafemi Hazmat, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Honourable Jamiu Tolani Ali-Balogun, and the Head of Service, Mr. Olabode Agoro, for their support.

During the lecture, Imam Abdul-Rahman Ahmad stressed that success is not defined by wealth, academic accomplishments, power, or popularity. True success, he said, is measured by one’s faith, strong moral values, hard work, and ethical leadership.

As he put it, “A successful person is one who is modestly successful materially, academically brilliant, and morally sound. Such a person has roots in the community and makes a positive impact, as the Holy Prophet Muhammad said, ‘The best of mankind is the one who is most beneficial to others.'”

A highlight of the event was the commissioning of the newly constructed District Mosque, a milestone celebrated by the Missioner, who also led the congregation in the Jummah prayer.

The event also featured a Quiz Competition and Quran Recitation Competition, encouraging students to deepen their Islamic knowledge and fostering a spirit of learning and excellence.

Dignitaries from various government sectors attended the event, including the Head of Service (HOS), Mr. Olabode Agoro, represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Housing, Engineer Toriola, and the Permanent Secretary of Lagos State Lands Bureau, Mr. Lamar Olowosago.

Also present were Mrs. Rukayat Sanusi (Permanent Secretary, Debt Management Office), Mrs. Hafsat Bolarinwa (Permanent Secretary, Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs), and Mrs. Adebopo Oyekan-Ismaila (Permanent Secretary, Teaching Service Commission).

Additionally, ANCOPPS and NUT Chairmen from Shomolu, Kosofe, and Ikorodu zones, along with Principals, commended the district for promoting both academic and moral excellence through such initiatives.
