CBT/JUMU’AH CLASH: OYO SUBEB BOWS TO PRESSURE, ADJUSTS TIMETABLE TO ALLOW MUSLIM CANDIDATES SAY PRAYERS

The Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board has made an adjustment to its Friday, July 26, 2024, Examination Timetable due to a clash with Juma’t prayer time.
Recall that the computer-based test for the recruitment of teachers into primary schools in the state commenced on Monday, July 22, and scheduled to end on Friday, July 26, 2024.
The Chairman, Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board, Dr. Nureni Aderemi Adeniran, in a statement on Thursday, declared that Muslim candidates whose examinations were earlier slated between 1pm to 3pm on Friday, can come for their exams after saying their prayers.
Adeniran said, “For the sake of the people who will observe jumat prayers at various mosques, between 1pm-3pm, they have the grace to come for their exams afterwards”.
He said the Muslim faithfuls have been permitted to observe prayers between this time, while non-muslims write their exams.
According to him, “the examination will still be on, but our Muslim brethren whose scheduled papers fall within the jumat period, will be allowed to sit for their exams when they return from the mosque.”
He however reiterated that the adjustment will not affect non-muslim candidates.
Dr. Adeniran added that, as his practice during the week, he will be at the centre to supervise the examination that will end tomorrow.
He further added that as a Muslim, he will also take a break from the supervision to observe Juma’t prayers and return at 3pm to ensure compliance.
