OYO SUBEB: CBT EXAM CLASH WITH JUMU’AH TIME DISHEARTENING, MUSLIM APPLICANTS DEMAND RESCHEDULE
The Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board’s computer-based test for the recruitment of teachers into primary schools in the state commenced on Monday, July 22, and continues on Friday, July 26, 2024.
However, Muslim applicants from the state have shown dissatisfaction with the CBT exam scheduled for 2pm on Friday, July 26, 2024, stating that it clashes with Juma’t prayers.
The applicants therefore call on the Oyo State government to reschedule the exam to after Juma’t prayers on Friday or to another day entirely.
The call was contained in a statement signed by Ustādh Rasheed Haashim, on behalf of the Oyo State Muslim applicants.
The statement reads, “Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) is presently recruiting teachers for 2024/2025 academic session. This is a welcome idea in our pace setter state.
“The applicants have been scheduled for the CBT test. Different dates and times have been allocated to the applicants according to messages received by them.
“But to the surprise of these Muslim applicants and Muslim faithfuls in the state, 2pm on Friday, 26th July, 2024 has been scheduled for a reasonable number of Muslim applicants! Some of the applicants contacted us few days ago lamenting bitterly for scheduling them to Jumu’ah time.
“This is worrisome, saddening, disgusting and disheartening. How could Oyo State SUBEB disregard Muslim applicants and go ahead to schedule such a CBT test at a time Muslim faithfuls pray Salatul-Jumu’ah on Fridays? Is this not a tactic of disqualifying Muslim applicants? Is this not a way of denying them their fundamental religious right? This religious bigotry should stop in Oyo State.
“This SUBEB CBT test scheduled for 2pm on Friday, 26th July, 2024 must change to any time from 3pm on Friday or be cancelled and rescheduled for another day.
“We call on Oyo State government to intervene on this act of injustice to Muslim applicants. We call on Oyo State Muslim Community to take necessary steps before it is too late. We call on MURIC, MSSN, NACOMYO and other concerned Muslim bodies to intervene now before it is too late.
“We are watching. Allah is our strength.
