IWF URGES MUSLIMS TO PRIORITISE EDUCATION, RESEARCH TO DRIVE PROGRESS
The leadership of the Islamic Welfare Foundation (IWF), an organization of Muslim intellectuals from diverse academic backgrounds, has stressed the importance of the Muslim Ummah reviving its tradition of prioritizing education and research to address present-day challenges.
Speaking during its annual conference on Islam in Nigeria (COIN), held in collaboration with Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, on Tuesday, the national coordinator of the foundation, Dr. Hassan Kalejaiye, said that the decline in knowledge acquisition in the Muslim community could be attributed to a departure from the values of faith, knowledge, and character, as championed by renowned Islamic scholars.
Dr. Kalejaiye said that the conference, themed “Social and Technology Development Architecture: The Role of Religion,” was carefully chosen to reflect the growing importance of technology in today’s society.
He highlighted the role of the conference in promoting the positive use of technology to advance the Islamic faith in Nigeria.
In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor of Al-Hikmah University, Professor Noah Yusuf, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sikiru Nurudeen, emphasised the potential of technology to enhance the Islamic way of life.
He noted that technology has revolutionised academia, expressing optimism that the conference would create a platform to encourage the development and propagation of Islamic values through technological innovation.
Also speaking, the Local Organising Committee (LOC) Chairman, Dr. Yusuf Suleiman, described the conference as timely, considering the challenges society faces with technology’s impact on social engagement.
He stated that the event would explore how technology could be harnessed to regulate societal interactions in line with Islamic principles.
The conference, which drew participants from diverse backgrounds, aimed to underscore the role of religion in guiding technological advancements towards a positive and socially responsible direction.
