PRIMACY OF AMANAH (KEEPING PROMISE) IN ISLAM

BY OYEWUNMI KAFAYAT

Amanah is an Arabic term that denotes, loyalty, dependability, and constancy. In general, it refers to putting one’s faith in someone and having that trust fulfilled or upheld. The moral duty of correctly completing one’s commitments is referred to as Amanah. It is a crucial part of a Muslim’s life. Allah (SWT) instructed us to follow Amanah to the letter. “Surely Allah teaches you to return trusts to their owners and to decide between people with fairness; Allah admonishes you with what is good; surely Allah sees and hears.” 4:58 (Suratul Nisa).

The first Amanah we are given is to be faithful worshipers of Allah (SWT) and live in this world according to Allah’s rules and instructions. “O believer, do not betray Allah and His Messenger’s Amanah (trust), and do not willfully break your trusts,” Allah says. (Sura Anfal, verse 27). We must correctly fulfill Amanah to be counted among the believers who keep their contracts, pledges, and agreements, if we do so, we shall enter paradise In Sha Allah.

One of the most important characteristics of sincere believers (Mu’min) is the ability to complete Amanah. Allah (SWT) expresses himself as follows: “Those who are faithful to their trusts and agreements, as well as those who keep their prayers secret. These are the descendants who will inherit Paradise.” (Mu’minun Sura 8-11)

The fulfillment of Amanah adds purpose to one’s personal and societal life. Because it contains everything Allah has committed to his believers and directed them to protect. Amanah also includes protecting one’s bodily capabilities from indulging in anything that is not pleasant to Allah, as well as guarding whatever given to him that has to do with the rights and dues of others. The ability to fulfill Amanah is a mark of a real believer, whereas the inability to fulfill Amanah is a symptom of Munafiq (hypocrite).

According to Hadith, whoever does not follow Amanah has neither faith nor religion. “There is no faith for those who have no trust, and there is no religion for those who do not keep their pledges,” the Messenger of Allah (SAW) remarked, according to Anas (Ra). (Ahmed Musnad)

According to another by Abu Hurairah (Ra), the Prophet (SAW) said “Signs of a hypocrite are three: Whenever he speaks, he lies; whenever he promises, he breaks his promises; and whenever he is entrusted with an Amanah, he betrays his trust (Amanah); even if he fasts and prays, and even if he claims to be a Muslim. (Bukhari and Muslim).

Allah (SWT), in (Sura Nisa, verse,145) “a hypocrite will be cast into the lowest level of Hell: “Verily, the hypocrites will be in the lowest depth (grade) of the Fire; no assistance will you find for them”.

In the Holy Quran, Allah (SWT) says: “Whoever intervenes in a righteous cause will be rewarded, but those who intervene in an evil cause will suffer the consequences. Allah has power over everything.” (Sura Nisa, v,85.)

Amanah also entails keeping one’s secrets. ,” Allah’s Messenger (SAW) said “If a man says something and then turns away, “it becomes a trust [that should not be revealed by the one who heard it].”

Narrated by Abu Dawood (Abu Dawood).

Abu Dawood also reported that Allah’s Messenger (SAW) said, “On the Day of Resurrection, one of the evilest people before Allah will be a man who had intimate with his wife and she is intimate with him, then he broadcasts her secrets.”

In companies, trust is a fundamental component of working relationships. Employees in businesses establish credibility via their regular activities and behavior. Feelings of uneasiness in the workplace are frequently a cause of atmosphere-related issues such as ridicule, tensions, disputes, and discrimination

In every sector of people’s social and personal activity, Amanah (trust and trustworthiness), plays a critical role in directing and serving as a guideline or benchmark to others. As a result, everyone should act in an Amanah manner in order to maintain good and harmony in their everyday lives, regardless of time as well as the location.

Sincerity is something that should be present in order to preserve the existence of Amanah among Muslims and others in general. It is because it leads to excellent acts, which are also accountable for mankind’s righteousness and honesty.

By really carrying out one’s tasks and duties, one can have an influence on the development of internal control, which has a significant impact on one’s Amanah practice. In fact, every Muslim, in particular, should carry out their tasks to the best of their ability since Allah will question them in the hereafter.

Almighty Allah continue to guide and control our affairs
