PURITY (TAHARA) IN ISLAM

TAHARA

BY OYEWUNMI.O.KAFAYAT

Tahara (purity) is an important component of Islam. It is accomplished by first purifying the body of physical impurities (such as urine) and then cleansing the body of ritual impurities using Wudu or Ghusl.
Every Muslim is required to keep his or her soul, clothes, and surroundings clean, and this is considered one of the pillars of Islam.

There are various Quranic verses that explain the significance of purity.
The Quran says: “In it, there are men who love to observe purity and Allah loves those who maintain purity.”[Quran 9:108] and also there is one verse which concerned with Taharah or purity and impurity of Humans: “O you who have believed, indeed the polytheists are unclean, so let them not approach al-Masjid al-Haram after this, their [final] year. And if you fear privation, Allah will enrich you from His bounty if He wills. Indeed, Allah is all-knowing and all-wise.”[Quran 9:28]

It is important to perform wudu and, in some situations, ghusl before offering prayers. Clean water is always the purifying element. When water is unavailable or rare, symbolic wudu and ghusl can be performed using clean dry sand (Tayammum).

If there are signs of urine, faeces, semen, or alcohol on the body or garments, Taharah is required. Blood and pus have been added to the list by many legal decisions. Clothing should be cleansed, and the damaged area of the body should be cleaned with pure water, or the entire body should be given a Ghusl, depending on the situation.

Taharah is necessary if there is evidence of urine, excrement, sperm, or alcohol on the body or clothes. Many court rulings have added blood and pus to the list. Depending on the situation, clothing should be cleaned, and the damaged part of the body should be treated with pure water or the entire body should be given a Ghusl.

Allah is all-knowing and all-wise.
