The NASFAT Agency for Zakat and Sadaqat (NAZAS) has provided N350 million to 40,000 indigents.

Hafiz Bakare, Chairman of the NAZAS Board of Directors, stated this at the weekend’s Annual General Meeting (AGM)/Muharram Zakat Disbursement in Lagos. According to him, the amount represents disbursements made since the agency’s inception in 2014.

He also claimed that NAZAS had lifted the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) ban (IDP).

“The agency has consistently responded to the needs of individuals with urgent health requirements, as well as providing educational scholarships to over 120 students each year, all while conducting Health Missions in communities that have benefited over 2,000 indigents.

The number of elderly people receiving a regular monthly stipend is increasing year after year, according to testimony. Through our food distribution efforts, which have benefited over 1,000 people, we have been able to provide help to the poor and needy in partnership with like-minded individuals and organizations,” he added.

Mufutau Adelotan, the General Manager of NAZAS, said the N34 million given on Sunday benefited 240 people.

Adelotan advised the recipients to put the goods they were given to good use.

According to him, the government may cooperate with NAZAS by educating Muslim employees about the need of paying Zakat and Sadaqah.

He urged the government to offer facilities that will prevent people from being hungry, “so that people will not be as reliant on Zakat as they are now.”
